The Development and Energy in Africa (DEA) project was formally completed on 31 October 2007. However collaboration between the project partners remains active to follow up, disseminate and further the ideas of the project.

The principal aims of the DEA project were:

bullet to identify and examine the developmental impacts of energy innovations and actions linked to improving energy access and poverty alleviation, and
bullet to use the information obtained to improve on-going and future energy interventions through the energy policy makers and institutions in the countries concerned.

The project was funded by the European Commission under its COOPENER programme, and co-financed by the Danish Government through URC, and the Netherlands Government through ECN.

Activities were implemented by a consortium of African partners in the target countries:

KITE, Ghana
Mali-Folkecenter (MFC)
ENDA-Energy,
Senegal
TaTEDO,
Tanzania
Centre for Energy, Environment and Engineering Zambia Ltd. (CEEEZ)

The European consortium partners were:
Risø National Laboratory, Denmark
Energy Centre Netherlands (ECN)
