Improving the Economic and Social Impact of Rural Electrification (IMPROVES-RE)

Project website

The objective of the project is to develop new approaches for rural electrification planning that integrate local knowledge and prioritise scarce development resources.

The novel planning approach has three important new elements: Focus on identifying development poles to ensure the maximum impact, integration of local and national priorities and use of geographic information system (GIS) as at tool to increase visibility and to enhance efficiency.

The project is financed by the COOPENER Programme of the European Commission.

IMPROVES-RE is implemented by IED, ETC and Risoe National Laboratory through URC, in cooperation with national organisations of Mali, Burkina Faso, Niger and Cameroon.
