The Project should help coordinating
policies at national level to achieve a sustainable transport system, and
enhance capacity of cities to improve mobility with lower CO2 emissions.
Expected outcomes are a Transport Action Plan developed with local
stakeholders, Low-Carbon Mobility Plans for up to four cities, and a Network
for Information Sharing and Co-ordination through the Project website.
Financing comes from the Federal
Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU)
of Germany.
The Project is implemented by the United Nations Environment Programme
(UNEP) through the UNEP Risoe Centre.
Local partners are the Indian Institute of Management (IIMA), the
Indian Institute of Technology (IITD) and the Center for Environmental
Planning and Technology University (CEPT), and partners from the target
cities.
The Project is nationally endorsed by the Ministry of Environment and
Forests (MoEF), and will be carried in close coordination and guidance from
the Ministry of Urban Development (MoUD).
The Project will be implemented in the period 2010-2013.
